SONGCO, Lantapan, Bukidnon  – Representatives of eight Moro tribes and most of the Lumad or non-Islamized tribes in Mindanao yesterday signed a five-point kinship covenant in a gathering here filled with festive remembrance of historical relationships and aspirations for peace and unity in the island.

Buseco director-elect David vows to be “pro-consumer”

MALAYBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News/08 March) Asked about his focus as the newly-elected board of director of the Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative for Malaybalay, Eligio “Jun” David vowed that he will take a pro-consumer stance amid the power-struggle inside the electric cooperative.

David told Bukidnon News recently he will initiate measures to protect the electric consumers as he has done before.

Leonard Leyros, Buseco spokesperson, said David who got 2,269 votes won over Brgy. 7 chair Alexander Maputi who got 1,471 votes. Buseco has at least 25,000 members in Malaybalay. A director serves a term of three years with a chance for reelection. Continue reading

Bukidnon, 1st province in PH to comply with mandatory IP representation – NCIP

MALAYBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News/06 March 2012) Bukidnon is becoming the first province in the country to comply with mandatory representation of the indigenous peoples in all levels of local government, a requirement provided by the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA), Ma. Shirlene Sario, provincial officer of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) said.
Sario said IP representatives have been selected in all of the province’s 462 barangays, 20 of its 22 towns and cities, and one for the whole province making it the first province to do so in all levels as provided in Section 16 of Republic Act 8371 or the IPRA of 1997.  Continue reading

IPs, Moro leaders to reaffirm kinship in Sungco

MALAYBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News/05 March) Aiming to resolve and reaffirm the traditional peace pacts between Lumads and the Moro people, about 33 tribal groups around Mindanao, including 13 from the Islamized indigenous peoples, are minding the reaffirmation of their kinship first, Datu Migketay Victorino Saway told the Bukidnon Press Club Monday.

He said leaders from the tribes around Mindanao are expected to attend what organizers said is a historic reaffirmation of the kinship of the indigenous peoples and the Moro people. Continue reading

MALAYBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News/ March 06, 2012) –  The contingent from the Municipality of Maramag bagged the top prize in the Kaamulan 2012 street dancing competition on March 3, one of the highlights and the biggest crowd drawer of the annual festival.

The second place went to the Municipality of Malitbog, the third place to the Municipality of San Fernando, and the fourth place to the Municipality of Cabanglasan.

The contingent from the Municipality of Maramag, which is at the crossroads of the province, featured the Lalabutan or the traditional exchanging or bartering of goods or food among the Lumads. Continue reading
