‘1st Malaybalay summer youth workshops’ begins at BSU Museum

MALAYBALAY CITY  – The 1st Malaybalay Community Summer Youth Training Workshops will begin Monday at the Bukidnon State University Ethno-cultural Museum and will run up to May 12.

The workshops, organized by community news service Bukidnon News, Davao-based MindaNews and hosted by BSU Museum include Basic News Writing, Basic Photography, Taking and Editing Videos, and Binukid for Beginners.
The workshops, primarily for children from ages 10 and above, are also open for “kids once” or adults who are willing to learn the basic skills related to journalism and communication in the community.
MindaNews reporter and Bukidnon News editor Walter I. Balane will give the Basic News Writing workshop for children ages 10 to 16. Balane is the current president of the Bukidnon Press Club. The participants will produce a laboratory newsletter at the end of the five-day workshop.
MindaNews editor-in-chief and photo contributor H. Marcos C. Mordeno will handle the Basic Photography sessions. Participants are expected to contribute to a mini-photo exhibit at the end of the workshops.
Bukidnon News contributor Aaron Sumampong will give the session on Taking and Editing Video Clips. Each participant of the session will be asked to prepare a 3-minute presentation dubbed.
Bukidnon State University social science teacher Loreta Sol Dinlayan will handle “Binukid for Beginners.”  Dinlayan also writes a column “Angaray’s Take” at Bukidnon News.  Participants of the session are expected to converse in basic Binukid during the workshop’s closing program on May 12.
MindaNews initiated its Summer Youth Training Workshops on Journalism and related subjects in GSIS Heights Subdivision, Matina, Davao City in 2006. So far, it has organized five summer workshops to provide avenue for children in the community to spend worthwhile summers by learning new skills.
Bukidnon News brought the workshops to Bukidnon starting this summer. During the week, the BSU Ethno-cultural Museum will also celebrate the World Museum Days.
