Valencia engineers estimate quake damage to properties at P7.7 million

MALAYBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News/10 November) A total of about P7.688 million worth of properties have been damaged by the November 7 earthquake in Valencia City, according to partial estimates of the City Engineer’s Office as quoted in the November 9 Disaster Progress Report of the Valencia City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. Fr. Nery memorial race draws 500 runners

MALAYBALAY CITY –  (Bukidnon News Dispatch/01-02 October) The first
ever Fr. Nery Satur memorial run, organized in time for the
commemoration of the 20th anniversary of his death, drew more than 500
participants on October 1.

The five-kilometer run started around 6:45a.m. at the Freedom Park
Covered Court. The Diocese of Malaybalay and the Archdiocese of Manila

Bukidnon, NorthMin organic rice country by 2013, says expert

SINAYAWAN, Valencia City (Bukidnon News Dispatch/28 Sept)— An organic
rice expert from the National Irrigation Administration predicted that
Bukidnon and the rest of Northern Mindanao’s rice lands will be organic
by 2013 with a program boosting the demonstration of organic rice
farming throughout the region.

Ildefonso Natingga Jr, NIA-10 organic rice demonstration officer, told
Bukidnon News recently that the feat is possible with the domino effect
starting from farmers who are taking part of the agency’s organic rice
demonstration project among irrigators’ associations in Northern
Mindanao.

He said they have developed half a hectare of rice farms in 95 sites
around the region as organic rice demonstration farms, which is

Valencia farmers to DA on NIA fertilizers: replace but get another source

SINAYAWAN, Valencia City – (Bukidnon News Dispatch/17 Sept.) The government must find a way to replace the substandard organic fertilizers distributed by the National Irrigation Administration to farmers in Northern Mindanao, if not, it would have been a waste of public funds, Judy Arota, president of the Federated Lateral G Irrigators Associations in Valencia City.

But Arota said the replacement stocks should come from another source, not anymore from 3K And C, supplier of the P30 million organic fertilizer distributed by NIA 10 in three phases since 2009 to help boost capacity of their irrigators association. Continue reading

Despite the discovery of lapses and substandard quality on the National Irrigation Administration – 10’s P30 million organic fertilizer project in Northern Mindanao, the Department of Agriculture’s investigators only recommended for the “reorientation of all BAC (Bids and Awards Committee) members of NIA-10 “to keep them updated and abreast with the latest updates of the Government Procurement Reform Act (R.A. 9184).” Continue reading
