MVC grad tops 2011 nursing board: “it was a miracle”

MALAYBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News/17 February) A graduate of Mountain View College in Valencia City, Bukidnon, Jerald L. Pelayo, topped the 2011 Nuursing Licensure Examination, according to the announcement of the Professional Regulation Commission Thursday.

Pelayo, who is from Masbate City and is now back in his hometown, earned a rating of 86.4 percent. Closely trailing Pelayo is Linsid Angelou  A. Tapongot from Xavier University with a rating of 86 percent.

Another graduate from MVC, Jierell Mae Victor Saguinhon, landed on the 9th place.Speaking at the wall of his Facebook account Pelayo, who described himself as “a simple creature with simple dreams in life yet loved by God,” thanked God and supporters for his success.

“This has been the utterance of our prayers. This has been our dream. This has been our hope. And now, this miracle is our shared success. This is all our victory,” he said in a post Friday afternoon. Bukidnon News could not reach Pelayo via telephone as of Friday evening.

About 17 of the 60 passers who got the top 10 rating were from Mindanao-based nursing schools, including 10 from Xavier University, the school from Mindanao with the highest number of topnotchers.

A total of 22,760 out of 67,095 passed the Nurse Licensure Examination, taken in December 18  to 19, 2011 in Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Dagupan, Davao, Iloilo, La Union, Legazpi, Lucena, Nueva Ecija, Pagadian, Pampanga, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga.   2. Yes, it is indeed a low passing rate. Why is it that the standards in the schools are much lower than the professional standards? Thanks for dropping by.
