Besides the floods, Valencia City celebrates 11th charter day

VALENCIA CITY  (Bukidnon News/06 January) The Valencia City Government has pushed through with its celebration of its 11thCharter Day events, which started in December and will last up to February 16 when a fluvial parade will be held along the Pulangi River.
Aristotle Collado, public information officer, told Bukidnon News Thursday that despite the city’s recent experience of flashfloods they have pushed through with all the activities.

The Charter Day Ceremonies, the main event, will be held on January 12 when a Golden Harvest Fair will also be held at the City Oval.

Mayor Leandro Jose Catarata said in an earlier interview that the resilience of the people will be highlighted in the celebration.  Valencia City barangays along the banks of the Pulangi River were ravaged by floods twice in December, just 10 days apart. First on December 17 brought by Tropical Storm Sendong and on December 27 when at least 1,146 families were displaced.

Organizers said the celebration is intended to draw visitors and guests from other municipalities and cities to come to the city, witness and join the celebrations, and boost more economic activities in the city.

The charter day celebration is also meant to promote the products, places and business opportunities that city has to offer. Another intention of the celebration is the discovery of new talents and potentials among the Valencianos.

Valencia City projects itself as the “City of Golden Harvest” with its agriculture-based economy.
As the economic powerhouse of the Province of Bukidnon, the city government said in its guide on the festivities, the City of Valencia is determined to provide avenues wherein her cultures and traditions are celebrated, her economic doors are opened for investments, and her peoples are united and their potentials are discovered.
The city government has slated several activities as of January 5 with final round of the Barangay Giant Christmas Tree evaluation, the Philippine Folk Dance Contests for elementary, high school, and college  categories, and a musical fireworks challenge.
On January 6, there will be an interschool drum and lyre competition, a Department of Education sponsored show, and the continuation of the musical fireworks challenge.
On January 7, they will hold a “Sikad sa Siyudad: Fun Ride 2012,” “Tagisan ng Galing at Talino,” “Invitational Duathlon Xterra,” and the elimination for the Bukidnon Wall-Climbing Competition 2012.

The Dagan sa Dakbayan: Fun Run 2012 will be held on January 8. On the same day, the championship rounds of the Bukidnon Wall-Climbing Competition 2012 will be held along with an invitational Adventure Race. A mountain bike race through the rice fields dubbed “Sikad sa Kaumahan” will also be held on the same day along with other activities.

On January 9, the Cheer Dance Competition; Private Colleges Night ; ABC Night; Musical Fireworks Challenge

January 11, SAIT Show; Final rounds – Giant Christmas Tree Contests;

January 12, Golden Harvest Fair (Inter-Barangay), Charter Day Ceremonies Inter-Barangay Harvest Olympics Oval Grounds, OTOP Display, Charter Day Culmination Program, Awarding for the Search for the Cleanest Purok (Business District), Awarding for the Search for the Best City Sanitation Crew, and a continuation of the Musical Fireworks Display and “Dance for All.”
