Malaybalay’s Taylor, Colonia rule Siargao adventure race

MALAYBALAY CITY—(Bukidnon News/20 October) Kenneth Taylor and Leo
Colonia who composed one of two teams from Malaybalay’s Gruppong
Panahik won as champion of the1st Siargao Adventure Race held at Santa
Monica, Siargao Island last October 5.
Seven teams competed in the race, which covered seven hour-30
kilometer off-road running, biking, cave rappelling, trekking and
orienteering or the sport that requires navigational skills using maps
and compasses, Ronan Montero of Gruppong Panahik said.

Montero and partner Gabriel Cabajes also placed third.

The race was joined by two teams each from Surigao and Malaybalay, and
one each from Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, and a team from Kenya.

Like the Amazing Race, the adventure race also subjected participants
to pass through ‘control points’ and do specific tasks such as solving
a puzzle, threading a needle and solving a math problem, said Montero.

Taylor said the winning team took home a trophy and P50, 000 prize,
the second placer, trophy and P25, 000; and the third place, trophy
and P15, 000.

Each team paid P1,500 entry fee in the race, which is open to
Filipinos and foreigners.
