2 alleged members of Bukidnon crime gang killed in Valencia City

VALENCIA CITY – Two suspected members of the notorious criminal group Rholie Batistil gang based in Bukidnon were killed in an early morning police operation Sunday.

The two died in an encounter with a composite police team who were tipped by the intelligence community of the two persons’ whereabouts in Juanillia Village, Purok 17C in Valencia City. Police Superintendent Reynante Reyes, chief of the Regional Special Operations Group, identified the suspects as Juvel Fabricante, who was ranked 13th in the most wanted person list in Northern Mindanao and Renante Malapad alias “Buddy/Long hair.

The police report said police composite team assembled in an area in the village where they expect the suspects to pass on a motorcycle. When the suspects came into view, they flagged it down. But Fabricante was reported to have lobbed a fragmentation grenade forcing them to fire. The grenade’s pin was removed, the police report cited, but “did not explode due to ordnance defect.”

Fabricante, who died on the spot, had a P90, 000 reward on his head. Malapad was rushed to Sanitarium Hospital in Valencia City, where he was declared dead on arrival. Police identified Fabricante and Malapad as alleged members of the notorious Rholie Batistil, a criminal group.

The Bukidnon Provincial Police Office has implicated the group, reported to be operating in Valencia City and neighboring towns, in criminal cases such as highway robbery, kidnapping, murder, cattle rustling, rape, carnapping and gun-for-hire.

Police reported to have recovered a .45 loaded pistol each from Fabricante and Malapad. They also reported to have found two fragmentation grenades inside a camouflage belt bag he was wearing.
Also recovered was an XRM black motorcycle and pictures of personalities believed to be would-be targets of the two suspects, including that of a Valencia City-based Catholic priest in a group file and those of relatives of victims of previous shoot to kill incidents involving one family.

Police tagged the slain suspects as “behind” or prime suspects of at least pending cases in the province. (Walter I. Balane/Bukidnon News)
