Fr. Nery memorial race draws 500 runners

MALAYBALAY CITY –  (Bukidnon News Dispatch/01-02 October) The first
ever Fr. Nery Satur memorial run, organized in time for the
commemoration of the 20th anniversary of his death, drew more than 500
participants on October 1.

The five-kilometer run started around 6:45a.m. at the Freedom Park
Covered Court. The Diocese of Malaybalay and the Archdiocese of Manila
sponsored the event to mark Satur’s death anniversary this year. The slain priest’s parents, Emeterio M. Sator and Felicitas D. Sator,
arrived from Pangantucan the day before to grace the occasion. They
were invited by the event’s focal person, Fr. Robert “Titing”
Selecios.

“Dako kay namo pagpasalamat sa kadaghan sa katawhan na niduyog,
nalingaw ug tan-aw,” said Emeterio Sator, 78.

The couple was very proud of their son’s cause.

“Bisan unsa nga kalihukan mutambong kong imbitaron kay kami gud ang
mga ginikanan,” said Mrs. Sator.

The cause of the run was thought of Rene Salinay, former runner and
now coaching 40 children from Barangay 1 called Malaybalay City Kid
Runners.

Initially, around September last year, Fr. Selecios offered to
organize a run for the children and Salingay suggested it to be for
Fr. Nery’s cause and death anniversary.

The run was sponsored co-sponsored by SID Press, DXDB Radio Station,
Ang Bandilyo newspaper, Diocesan Ecological Desk and Panahik Adventure
Center.

Several individuals volunteered for the event such as the Malaybalay
City Central School’s Special Education Division (SPED) in Malaybalay
for the secretariat, Rommel Abao for the technical part of the run.
The Biking Society of Malaybalay worked as race marshals.

About 50 slots with free registration per school were given for
students of the Bukidnon National High School (BNHS), Bukidnon State
University (BSU). and San Isidro College (SIC) .

Fr. Selecios said the race was organized not only to remember Fr. Nery
Satur’s death. But, he added, it also for the public to know his life
and what he has done. (Hazel A. Generalao/Bukidnon News)
