SP eyes Impasug-ong as Bukidnon’s tribal capital

MALAYBALAY CITY (Bukidnon News Dispatch/22 Sept.) – Majority of the
members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan are proposing an ordinance
declaring the town of Impasug-ong as Bukidnon’s tribal capital.

Eight members of the 14-member provincial board have sponsored the
proposed ordinance, Nemesio Beltran Jr., one of the proponents, said.As of Sept. 21, the proposed ordinance is still at the committees on
indigenous people, tourism, laws, and rules and privileges.

Beltran said they will soon hold public hearings and consultations on
the matter.

He explained in the draft he penned down that that Impasug-ong,
established since 1877, was able to “preserve its cultural heritage
and ethnic identity.”

Impasug-ong, Beltran added, is the only the town where the Higaonon
tribe lives in all 13 villages and religiously practice their tribal
customs and traditions.

Beltran cited the ritual called “pamuhat” and that tribal justice
system has been implemented in the barangays of Impasug-ong,  one of
Bukidnon’s 20 towns and two cities.

The province has seven tribes namely; Bukidnon, Manobo, Higaonon,
Talaandig, Matigsalug, Tigwahanon and Umayamnon. (Bukidnon News)
