SIC, Prov’l Capitol team up for reforestation program

MALAYBALAY CITY – Catholic Church-owned San Isidro College is signing a memorandum of agreement for a four-year reforestation program with the provincial government.The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Bukidnon during its 30th regular session on August 14 approved the resolution allowing the SIC to develop and manage part of the Provincial Tree Park.

Fr. Virgilio Delfin, SIC president, who was invited for the session clarified that the MOA aims to engage a 4-year reforestation program on a pre-assigned area.

The Bukidnon Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) has assigned SIC with a hectare of the 500-hectare tree park. A MOA will be signed by Delfin and Gov. Alex Calingasan for the project.

One of the objectives of the four-year reforestation program is to train and involve the personnel and students of the college to develop deep love for the environment, according to Arbella Grace Espina, vice president for research extension and development of SIC, in her PowerPoint presentation.

SIC plans to plant Gold Trees and Benguet Pine Trees in the tree park, previously included in the Bukidnon Forest Inc’s 39,000-hectare industrial plantation project. (Bukidnon News)
